Leavenworth’s Bavaria

2015-10-6 Leavenworth (32.5)Leavenworth is a treat!  We’ve been hearing about this Bavarian village for a long time and today we visited!  It’s about a 45 minute drive from Wenatchee, up in the mountains.  It was a beautiful drive and a delightful destination!  Oktoberfest is celebrated every weekend in October with lots of beer and brats.  Today was a quiet Fall day, and we had a few hours to wander around and enjoy feeling like we truly were in Bavaria.2015-10-6 map   2015-10-6 Leavenworth (13)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (1)In the 1960s a group of visionaries in Leavenworth decided to revitalize a failing economy by turning the town into a tourist destination patterned after a Bavarian village.  It was a good thing, and now people come from all over to enjoy this taste of Europe in central Washington.  We loved it–it felt very close to authentic.  Music played in the streets, there were delis and Bakereis with delicious pastries, a Nutcracker Museum, a music box store, Christmas shops and fun boutiques.2015-10-6 Leavenworth (26)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (3)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (4)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (7)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (9)   2015-10-6 Leavenworth (59)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (10)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (11)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (15)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (16)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (17)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (19)   2015-10-6 Leavenworth (20)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (21)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (24)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (27)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (30)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (57)  2015-10-6 Leavenworth (58)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (31)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (34)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (36)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (37)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (38)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (40)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (62)We found the LDS church building in town.  Some very lucky missionaries will probably be assigned to this branch next transfer when we open some more new areas.2015-10-6 Leavenworth (51)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (45)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (46)2015-10-6 Leavenworth (48)
