Today we drove to Hood River to attend church. We had a fabulous day. The ward was wonderful, we got to see our missionaries there, and then while President Lewis did some interviews, I got to go spend some time with Sister Leyva and Sister Hansen. They live about 12-15 miles from Hood River (depending on which road you take) in an absolutely gorgeous spot up in the mountains. Last night it poured rain, and today everything was clean and crisp, fragrant with pine and wet leaves and it was spectacular! Mt. Hood was covered in new snow and hovered over us as we drove. We had a wonderful afternoon together. Above is a photo so Sister Leyva helping to teach the Relief Society lesson today.
Below are a few pictures of the area and where these sisters live. I almost hesitate to post these photos because I know you will want to drop everything and get in your cars and come to our Yakima Mission. It doesn’t get much better than this! Here is the road to where the Sisters live: The river was a little muddy because of the heavy rains. A park along the way: Here is the large farm that belongs to Nancy, the landlord where the Sisters stay. Nancy raises chickens and sells organic eggs. Last night the sisters got locked in the little red chicken house when the door slammed shut in the wind. It locks from the outside. Luckily they had a cell phone with them and could call a neighbor for help. Nancy was out of town, and they were helping gather the eggs for her. The neighbor has goats and the Sisters took visited with the fellow feeding them. Any mail?? Here is their Home Sweet Home! They have a cute apartment in the back of this garage. What beautiful views in every direction! Look at Mt. Hood below: Here’s a look inside their apartment: It was a joy to spend time here today. Loved every minute with these Sisters. They are doing a great job, meeting so many good people. They told me the people here are so kind, they are able to visit with almost everyone they meet. Who wouldn’t welcome such wonderful Sisters into their homes?
