Yakima Mission Apple Cake Recipe

Sister Lewis’s Apple Cake with Cream Sauce

2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
2 cups flour
2 tsp. soda
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. salt
1 cup chopped pecans
4 cups shredded apples

· Cream sugar and butter until fluffy.
· Add eggs, flour and spices.
· Stir in apples and place in a well greased 9×13 pan.
· Bake for 35-45 minutes in a 350° oven.

Sauce:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
2 tsp. vanilla
· Heat and simmer for 12-15 minutes, stirring constantly.
· Cool slightly and add vanilla.
· Spoon over warm cake (try not to drink it).
