Here is the first batch of our new missionaries!! Five more will come this afternoon from the Mexico MTC. These Elders are amazing–you can just tell by looking at them!We collected everyone’s luggage, then loaded things up to head to the Mission Home.Lunch was ready and waiting. These missionaries have been up since the crack of dawn, ready for this new adventure! We served pulled pork sandwiches, fruit salad, watermelon, chips and all the fixins.Everyone worked on letters home and our arrival questionnaires while President Lewis interviewed them, one by one.We had 18 beds ready, upstairs for the 13 Elders, and downstairs for the 3 Hermanas. At 1:00 our seasoned Elders came to the Mission Home. We paired them up with the new missionaries and they headed out to the streets of Yakima to find and teach for the next 1.t hours.Every missionary remembers doing this on their first day, and they LOVE it when they get to be the “senior” taking the new juniors out.
This is Sister Call, our fabulous Mission Secretary:Waiting for everyone to return:Once everyone was back, we went downstairs, got in a big circle and everyone told about their afternoon experiences. So fun. Then we said farewell to our local missionaries and had a bit of down time until dinner. This afternoon Elder and Sister Call picked up our Mexico MTC Missionaries.Welcome to the Mission Home!Licking plates clean!Famous WYM Apple Cake for dessert (recipe is in the link to mission recipes on the left). After dinner we all gathered for some orientation with the nurse, Sister Van De Venter, and the office couples who explained about mission finances, cars, records, housing and that sort of good stuff. Then we had a simple testimony meeting and afterwards, we gave out WYM t-shirts and recommend holders. Everyone was so tired. We were finished by 10:30 and sent this crew of eager happy missionaries to bed.
The APs stayed with us until midnight, figuring out who will go where with which trainer. This is God’s work and His hand is in it, every detail.
