Days for Girls Event, Terrace Heights

2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (1)This morning we also had a Days for Girls Event in Terrace Heights building in east Yakima.  Many of our regulars were at the Women’s Conference.  I made it to the last hour or so and got to see these women and men in action.  2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (4)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (7)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (8)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (12)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (13)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (14)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (15)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (18)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (19)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (20)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (21)These two amazing women represent the group of women at the Holy Cross church who make bags for us by the hundreds.  We are so grateful for their sewing group and the service they give.  They are our favorite Bag Ladies!2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (22)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (24)Today we assembled a record 260 finished kits!!  It’s amazing how many women in the community work on the parts and pieces all through the month.  We have so many who donate underwear, wash cloths, soap and Ziploc bags.  And there are more women than we can count who sew and serge and iron and stitch the liners and shields.  It takes a village to make a kit.  This village here in the Yakima area is amazing.2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (25)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (26)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (27)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (28)2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (29)My car was full to the brim with finished kits when we packed things up at about 3:00 this afternoon.  This makes me SO HAPPY.  We have sent out 850 kits so far.  We have about 1000 more plus this load.  We are anticipating access to a container going to Haiti in the coming months.  The girls there are waiting for these kits.  I love Days for Girls.  I love women who help with Days for Girls.  2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (30)Dan, Benita and Terry come every month to help.  Dan helps with all the sewing machines and sergers.  He told me today that each morning when he gets up, he asks God, “What’s on the agenda for today?” and most days he and his wife find something to do for Days for Girls.  Their friend, Terry joins in the fun, serving and helping.  Dan brought us 2 donated sergers and 2 donated sewing machines this month.  I was not surprised when these three told me they pray over the parts and pieces they make and pray for the girls they will never see who will receive these kits.  These are angels who walk on earth.  We love them.  I pray that in some future day, in some future place, they will meet every single girl whose life was changed because of their kindness and love.2017-3-11 DfG Terrace Heights (31)
