WYM Mini Missions

One of the wonderful experiences we offer here in the WYM is the opportunity for youth in the area to serve Mini Missions with our outstanding Elders and Sisters throughout the mission.  Elder Call begins preparing for these magical weeks in August early in the year, sending letters out to every Stake President, Bishop and Branch President.

By the end of summer, we had almost 60 Mini Missionaries signed up this year!  Each spends 2 days with our missionaries (sleeping at their own homes for the night).  They get the full missionary experience, and they get a good feel for what it’s like to be a full-time missionary.

The youth here LOVE this experience.   For many, it’s life-changing.  It’s also great fun for our missionaries to mentor, teach and explain how mission life works, as they share the love for what they do with others.  Many of these youth come away from this experience saying, “I want to do this!”

Dear Bishop/Branch President:

We are pleased again this year to provide your pre-missionary youth with the opportunity to participate in the upcoming Washington Yakima Mission Mini-Missions. Due to anticipated demand and scheduling conflicts we will have two sets of dates; August 2nd & 3rd as well as August 9th & 10th. Experience has shown that enlisting the help of your Young Men and Young Women Presidents to assist you will be extremely beneficial. Last year we had 45 youth participate in the mission. We are hopeful to reach out to even more youth this year.

The essential details of the Mini Mission are:
·It is scheduled for August 2nd & 3rd or August 9th & 10th, 2017.

·The young men/young women should be dropped off at the missionary’s residence at 8:00 AM and be picked up at 9:00 PM each of the two days of the mission.

·Young men and young women ages 16-19 may participate.

·Please have each young man/young woman desiring to participate complete and sign both an “application” form and a “Responsibilities of a Mini Missionary” form and either email it to the WYM mission office at 2040417@ldschurch.org or mail it to the mission office at 1006 S. 16th Ave, Yakima, WA 98902, no later than June 30th. Please be sure that all application forms are legible. It is best to include both a phone number and email address where the applicant can be reached.

·We will do our best to accommodate all young men/young women who wish to serve a mini-mission. The number of young men and young women who will be able to participate will depend on the number of Elder and Sister Companionships in the various stakes at that time.

·As a lesson learned: please make sure the young men/women who apply have a desire and are willing and committed to serving a mini-mission. In the past we have had 10% attrition, typically at the last minute, which makes the mini-mission program more difficult to implement.

We are excited to have your young men/young women serve with us in this great work. Please help them to get excited and prepared for this experience. If they prepare properly they will have learned and gained much from this opportunity to immerse themselves in meaningful missionary service.

If you have any questions, please contact Elder Call at the WYM mission office.

Responsibilities of a Mini Missionary

Assist the full-time missionaries as they invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end (PMG pg 1).

  • Assist the full time missionaries in teaching as they direct you.
  • Fully participate in personal and companionship study times each morning. Your full-time missionary companion will show you what to study.
  • Follow the direction of your full time missionary companions as they plan the day and determine where to work and what to do (the full-time missionaries have been called by President Monson and been given stewardship by the mission president over the area and the people they are teaching).
  • Remember to be a worthy example of the Savior and a representative of His church
  • Bear testimony frequently of the message of the Restoration as taught in Preach My Gospel
  • Obey the mission rules with exactness, including living the daily schedule.

Your main responsibility as a mini missionary is to follow the lead of the full time missionaries and to be a pillar of support to them as they work to help their investigators progress towards the waters of baptism and coming unto their Savior Jesus Christ.

Be unified with the full-time missionaries you are assigned to. Serve the Lord with all your heart. As you do so your testimony will grow and your faith will increase.  Your determination to follow the Savior and be part of his work will become a part of who you are.

I agree to fulfill the responsibilities of a mini missionary.
