Missionaries arrived this morning at 9:00 for the first of 2 specialized trainings today. Our first group of 14 included all of the brand new missionaries serving in the southern half of the mission. We are grateful for the good members who help transport them here. How fun to see our newest missionary friends! We are ready to go!Elder Walker and Elder Anderson conduct these meetings. We begin with introductions. Each missionary introduces their companion. We learn some interesting things! Here is this new group, just last week as they each arrived! Then Pres Lewis began by teaching about our Missionary Purpose and how and why we do what we do.Elder Walker taught about Humility.Elder Anderson taught about obedience. These are the two keys to being a good missionary. Then Elder Hibbard, on of our Trainers, talked about the 12 Week Program, which each of these companionships is in right now. It gets everyone off on the right start, learning the skills they need to know to be good teachers and missionaries. Then we had a short break. Tangerines and granola bars! Then the new missionaries stayed downstairs and met with the APs while the Trainers went upstairs with Pres Lewis. These new missionaries shared experiences, scary and inspirational! Then they practiced teaching the Restoration lesson simply in 5 minutes or less.Pres Lewis talked to the Trainers about their important role and how to best help their new companions learn and progress in all the right ways. Our Trainers:We concluded the training with Elder Holland’s wonderful talk you can listen to here. We start at 37:48 and show it until the end. I never tire of listening to Elder Holland.
It’s been a cold wet day outside, trying to snow.Quick lunch for the APs, who will be ready to turn around and start again at 1:00.Elder Mower made his first hand-made tie! He did a beautiful job stitching!
And Elder Dale offered to help me with my computer. It keeps dying–it just turns off when I’m in the middle of important things. He said it could be dust or overheating from dust. Sure enough, when he opened it up, it had plenty of dust inside.Everyone got a quick computer lesson.Blowing out the dust in my computer:What great missionaries we have. It’s a joy being with them. They are filled with light and goodness.
